From City Lights to Farm Fields: My Journey to Personal Training (It's Never Too Late!)
Having lived the majority of my working life in London, I couldn't shake the feeling I was missing something. Lockdown served as an unexpected pause button, forcing me to reflect on what truly mattered. It was time for a change, a chance to try something new.
So, at a time when many might feel settled, I took a leap of faith. I traded the concrete jungle for the rolling hills of East Sussex. The fresh air, the wide-open spaces, it was a breath of life I never knew I needed. But the greatest transformation was yet to come. I embarked on a new adventure, one that would combine my passion for health and wellness with the joy of helping others - becoming a personal trainer.
Now, amidst the 80 inspiring acres of Barn Gym in Etchingham, I'm privileged to witness the transformative power of change every day – not just in my own journey, but within my clients as well. The rewards extend beyond the physical. Seeing the dedication and determination of those who may be older or just starting their fitness journey is a continuous source of inspiration. Their contagious enthusiasm and spirit make those early mornings completely worthwhile.
This journey has been a testament to the fact that it's never too late to make a change. Don't let societal expectations or a narrow mindset hold you back. Embrace the power of self-discovery and the freedom to chart your own course. It's never too late to learn new things, pursue your passions, and create a life that brings you joy and fulfilment.
The path has certainly presented its challenges. Entering a new career, especially one involving physical fitness in later life, required me to navigate a unique set of obstacles. However, I've learned to trust myself, approach challenges as opportunities for growth, and consistently work towards becoming the best trainer I can be.
When life throws a curveball and I find myself feeling down, music is my go-to mood booster. It doesn't just personally uplift me, but it also plays a crucial role in my fitness classes. Indeed research has shown that upbeat music can be a powerful tool, providing distraction from exertion, improving coordination, and boosting motivation. But I don't just throw on any random playlist. I believe in theming the music to create a unique experience for each session. This keeps participants engaged, guessing what's next, and ultimately, adds an extra layer of fun and enjoyment to the workout
Finally, what sets me apart? I believe it's my genuine care for people. I'm passionate about helping individuals achieve their goals, big or small, while fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where everyone feels welcome and celebrated.
It's never too late to unlock your potential and create positive change in your life. My advice would be to start by setting achievable goals, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, and celebrating your personal journey towards a healthier, happier you.
Thanks,
Alec
